Sól Privacy Policy

This policy went into effect on February 1st, 2026.

What We Collect

In order for you to make use of Sól, we need to collect and/or process some information. Depending on your usage, that may include:

  • Your usage of Sól features;

  • Your current location for use in Sól Weather forecasts and notifications (see Location Information section below for more details);

  • The type of device you use, the IP address of your device, and your operating system;

  • Details about your Sól Pro subscription if you are a subscriber;

  • Your anonymised device ID if notifications are enabled in Sól;

  • Your anonymised user ID if notifications are enabled in Sól;

  • Your IP address and type of device being used; and

  • Information you send to us (for example, when seeking support, sending us questions or comments, or reporting a problem).

We use the information we collect to provide weather data and notifications. We also use the information to create, develop, operate, deliver, and improve our products, services, content, and advertising.

Information cannot be linked to a particular user unless that user manually provides us with their anonymised, randomly-generated device or user ID.

We retain your information only as long as necessary to provide our services. Specifically, we retain the following information:

  • Only your most recent location and associated device and user IDs if you have notifications enabled; and

  • All support-related communications, including but not limited to user-initiated emails and bug reports.

Location Information

You may opt to grant Sól access to your current location (“Location Information”) to receive localised weather forecasts. This feature requires access to your device’s current location, even when the Application is not currently running. Where available, location-based services may use GPS, Bluetooth, and your IP Address, along with crowd-sourced Wi-Fi hotspot and cell tower locations, and other technologies to determine your device’s approximate location. Your Location Information will be used to request and display weather data and notifications for your current location.

Location Information is uploaded to our servers if you have notifications enabled in Sól. Your Location Information is used only to provide localized weather alerts. If you turn off notifications, your Location Information will be removed from our servers.

Your Location Information will be shared automatically with our weather data providers, such as Apple Weather, Stormglass and OpenMeteo, when you request weather data for your current location.

Third Party Data Processors

Sól uses third-party services to provide weather and mapping data. All weather-related data requests are routed through an intermediary server in an effort to prevent any personally identifying data from being passed on to third-party services. In addition, the precision of Location Information is also reduced before being used in weather-related data requests to reduce the likelihood that any single request can be tracked back to a specific user.

The third-party services used by Sól include:

  • Apple Weather

  • Stormglass

  • Open Meteo

Please refer to the privacy policies of these third-party data processors for information regarding their data practices.

What’s Private

This data will not be publicly displayed or revealed by us to others:

  • Any and all location data;

  • Your IP address and device type; and

  • Communications you send to us (unless sent in public such as via social media or after getting your permission).

We do not share personal information with third parties except when necessary to provide services (such as sharing access tokens with any external services).

We reserve the right to disclose personal information when doing so is deemed necessary to comply with the law or law enforcement, to prevent fraud or abuse, or to protect our legal rights.

Uses of Your Personal Information

We will use the personal information you provide to:

  • Weather and tide data for the location you specify and share; and

  • Enable us to provide you with services including but not limited to push notifications.

We take securing your data and preserving your privacy very seriously.

We do not and will not sell your data.

Information may be transferred to countries other than where you reside (for example, while accessing a weather details in the United States while you are in Europe). We do not log this information within Sól, but it can be kept by the weather service provider.

On request, we will delete any personal information about you that we hold. The information the app uses and stores on your device is inaccessible to us and can be deleted at anytime by uninstalling the app.

On request, we will give you a copy of all the personal information about you that we may hold. This information is subject to a fee not exceeding the prescribed fee permitted by law.

We will protect all information we receive in accordance with this privacy policy.
